Laura Cooper

Executive Director

Laura Cooper joined the Major Cities Chiefs Association after having served as Director of Government Affairs at two Washington DC based lobbying firms. Laura managed corporate client and premier law enforcement organization portfolios and has been at the forefront of today’s leading public safety initiatives.

She has worked extensively on criminal justice, national security and technology issues and has experience in handling all facets of law enforcement policy including priorities such as data privacy, federal grants, police reform, mental health, and immigration enforcement. In addition to public safety policy, Laura has prioritized executive wellness as well as leadership development through the MCCA’s Police Executive Leadership Institute program.

Laura has fostered and maintained partnerships across all aspects of public safety and has vast experience managing complex issues. She began as an intern on Capitol Hill and quickly rose through the ranks. She has coordinated state and local level working groups, bipartisan efforts to resolve challenges, and has written several pieces of legislation.

Laura is a graduate of Virginia Tech and is based in the DC metro area.
